“I Wish to Go to a Barbie World.”
Chatsiri, Age 7 | Thailand
Chatsiri is a little girl from near Bangkok, who goes by the nickname Pak Khom. In 2010, she became the very first wish child for Make-A-Wish® Thailand. At a young age, Pak Khom was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma. The night before her wish day, Pak Khom was so excited she couldn’t sleep. She moved around her tiny home all night, keeping her parents awake. In the early morning on her wish day, Pak Khom was ready at 6 AM, telling her parents it was time to go. The Make-A-Wish team decorated Pak Khom’s special Barbie world and placed Barbie dolls everywhere the eye could see.
Dressed in a custom-made Barbie costume and riding in her specially-decorated pink wheelchair, Pak Khom rode from reality into her Barbie wish world. Thanks to some very generous help from Mattel, her world had lots of surprises like pink candies, cake and all of her friends as well as Barbie herself. Pak Khom also shared special moments with Thai mega star Tata Young and popular talk show host Khun Woody. After a wish come true, Pak Khom stood up in her wheelchair and told everyone that “Her wish will live forever in her memory.”
